Cortney Owens is CTM’s Service Dog Consultant and Trainer. Cortney has always been a dog lover – at the age of five she was training all the neighbors’ dogs in her front yard! She worked in a veterinarian office as a teen and earned her first training job there.
Professionally, Cortney has over 16 years of dog training experience, to include retriever training, explosives detection training, and service dog training. She spent a year in the UK, working with the British Army implementing training dog programs in their groups, and she worked locally at K2, where she met Suzy, CTM’s Executive Director. During her time at K2, Cortney worked with their service dog program for the VA as Head Trainer for 3 1/2 years. She now works for the VA on that same service dog project and has gained a great deal of experience through seeing the development of service dogs from both sides. Throughout her career, Cortney’s hard work and dedication has earned her multiple awards and certifications.
Partnering with CTM was a no brainer for Cortney – her life-long love of animals has been the foundation of her career and has guided her through various invaluable opportunities. Cortney’s passion for impacting lives through the training of service dogs allows CTM to provide high quality support dogs to our veterans with PTSD.
